Community Story Walk led by Turner Park Library Staff
I have always been involved in my community, whether it be babysitting local children or running games in the park.
Earlier this year, I organized a neighbourhood clean-up that was very successful and rewarding. This summer I had a great opportunity to work for the Social Planning and Research Council as the Community Development Assistant.
During my role, I organized a community movie night as well as a summer camp for children. I've had an opportunity to meet new people in my community and support them in completing community grant proposals and to hold a community events. I will continue to support the community going into the fall as well as focusing on my University Studies.

Event organizer Teena and happy residents at the Columbus Square Community BBQ
The South Mountain Small Grants Program launched 4 months ago. In that short time it has been amazing to see so many community leaders bring forward their ideas to bring the neighbourhood together, and to see those ideas come to life!
To this point, about half of the $5000 Small Grant fund for 2016 has been given to local South Mountain residents to lead events or initiatives in their neighbourhood to connect with and bring people together. The ideas that have been funded so far? Community movie nights, BBQ's with giveaways for local children, funding support for a local summer camp, and even a visit from the Reptile Guy!

Movie Night at 595 Rymal in July
My daughter and I recently attended the community movie night held at Kiwanis Homes at 595 Rymal Road East. My daughter had a great time playing with neighbourhood friends, and enjoyed the movie and snacks.
It was great to see everyone come together to share and discuss ideas about future events and move forward as a community. I am looking forward to all the possibilities in store for the South Hamilton Mountain!
